The event was well attended by members of the local community and was also supported by Mr Mike Westhorpe who is the Head of Lifelong Learning at Powys County Council, Mrs Sylvia Rowlands, Mayoress and Mr Richard Parkes General Manager of Powys Training.

Mr Mike Westhorpe presented the awards to learners of all ages and also gave a talk on the benefits of Lifelong Learning in the community and its importance to the rural economy.

Mr Edward Cain, Centre Manager said that the concept of Lifelong Learning had been demonstrated by a 50 year age difference between the youngest and oldest learner that had attended the Machynlleth Centre in the last year. He also stressed that it was Powys Training’s policy to promote “Learning For All” regardless of peoples age or ability.

Amongst the learners receiving awards were people that had recently been made redundant from a local clothing manufacturer, they came to Powys Training to learn new skills and were the first learners to achieve the European Computer Driving Licence qualification together with a number of Key Skills.

This has been an exceptional year for the Machynlleth Centre with a total number of 93 learners receiving over 300 certificates.
