Learning Pays Off For Modern Apprentice Kirsten
Kirsten Williams, 22, who works for Reflexion Social Care Solutions in Newtown, has achieved a National Vocational Qualification level 3 in administration and is keen to carry on learning. She is now aiming for a Certificate in Personnel Practise at Radbrook College in Shrewsbury as part of her ambition to become a Human Resources manager. Kirsten, who lives in Shrewsbury, is delighted with the progress she has made and the support she has received since joining Reflexion Social Care Solutions, a private care organisation that has been providing specialist support for children and young people since 1999. Her Modern Apprenticeship programme was delivered for ELWa by Powys Training and Bethany Training Services in Newtown. “The work based training that I received was excellent because it was relevant to everything I do,” said Kirsten. “Learning is very important to me because it has given me the knowledge and confidence to do my job.” Anne Williams, Reflexion Social Care Solutions’ human resources manager, said Kirsten originally joined the company as a receptionist but, due to her excellent communication skills and commitment to learning, she was promoted to her assistant. “She is now responsible for recruitment, carrying out checks with the Criminal Records Bureau, some financial work and ensuring that all the procedures are followed in line with care standards expectations,” she added “She is very committed to getting as much knowledge as possible to do her job and she has received excellent support from the training providers. As the company continues to grow and diversify to meet the needs of the children we work with, it’s important that I have a very capable assistant who can take responsibility in my absence.” Powys Training’s Newtown centre manager David Birch praised Kirsten for completing her Modern Apprenticeship framework way ahead of schedule. “Due to the learning programme she has grown in stature and taken on more responsibility following her promotion,” he said. Modern Apprenticeships provide people with an opportunity to work and learn at the same time. There are more than 90 different MA courses in Wales that provide a pathway to employment.
