Massive Construction Success in Ystradgynlais
Jamie started his FMA programme in September 2003, after working several years in local factories "Lyte Ladders" and "Lucas." He decided he wanted to improve his his career prospects and go into the construction trade. He completed his FMA framework in bricklaying with employer "SAB Brickwork Ltd." He has now started working in partnership with another of our bricklayer apprentices.
Mark started his FMA programme in September 2003. He had worked in several of the local factories for "Harlech Tools" and "Hi Tec Assemblies," in the Ystradgynlais area, but he wanted to improve his career prospects. He achieved his brickwork framework in September 2005 with employer "SAB Brickwork Ltd." He is still working with this employer and is currently supervising our second year apprentices.
Gareth started his FMA programme in September 2003. He had been working in local factories and had been in the Army for a short while. Gareth wanted a career in the building trade. He achivieved his FMA brickwork framework in September 2005 with employer, Robert Yates. He is now working in partnership with one of our other apprentices.
Damien started with Powys Training on the SkillBuild programme in December 2002. While on SkillBuild, he completed his keyskills and work experience with local builder Robert Davidson Owen. He transferred to the FMA programme in April 2003 and completed his brickwork framework in September 2005. He is still working with Robert Davidson Owen.
Christian started his FMA programme in September 2002 with emplyer Arwel Ace. He has achieved his apprenticeship in plastering and has now gone into self-employment.
David came to Powys Training on the ACORN project in 2000 for I.T. training. He started his FMA in Spetember 2002 with local plasterer Richard Davies. He has achieved his apprenticeship in plastering and is now working on a self-empolyed basis.
This is the second time Emyr has been with Powys Training. He previosuly achieved an AMA in Motor Vehicle Body Repair. He joined forces with his father, a local builder, and achieved his second apprenticeship in Wood Occupation. Emyr is hoping to go on and do an HNC.
Craig Langford Craig started his FMA programme in March 2003. He was working with his father who is a local builder and felt he needed to gain formal qualifications in the brickwork trade. Craig achieved his framework in September 2005 and is still working with his father, R W Langford. Christopher Evans Christopher started on the SkillBuild programme straight from school in 2001. After several work placements ranging from Plastering to the Leisure Industry, he finally settled on Electrical Installation. Local employer Lloyd Rogers took him on to do the AMA programme in April 2002. He has now achieved his AMA framework in Electrical Installation and has started his own business. He has given several of our current skillbuild learners work experience and is hoping to find a suitable apprentice. Christopher Bayliss Christopher is Ystradgynlais' first FMA brickwork achiever. He started his FMA programme in September 2002 and after changing employers a couple of times; he achieved his framework in March 2005. Christopher is now self-employed and has taken on an apprentice bricklayer through Powys Training. Michael Bates Michael started with Powys Training on the SkillBuild programme in July 2001 and was placed with PCC Housing Maintenance Department for work experience as a bricklayer. Michael quickly realised that he had an aptitude for carpentry and transferred to the AMA programme in February 2002, takin gthe carpentry route. In 2003, Michael won Powys Training Achiever of the Year. He has now ahcieved his advanced apprenticeship in carpentry.

Duncan Ben Edwards Duncan achieved his AMA in Electrical Installation.
David Williams David achieved his AMA Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Kevin Lane Kevin started the SkillBuild programme in June 2005. He was unsure what he wanted to do. He tried his hand at bricklaying, however he found this was not for him. He was then placed at a local hotel / public house, Ynyscedwyn Arms, to assist in the kitchen. He proved to be a great asset in the kitchen and was employed by the hotel. While on skillBuild he achieved two keyskills and breakthrough.
James Dixon James started the SkillBuild programme in August 2004. James was very unsure what he wanted to do. He had work experience with several employers, from recycling to construction. Eventually he was placed with a local builder merchant, LBS Ltd, who after a few months were so pleased with him offered him employment. |
